Water heaters
Hot water back, and the right heater for your house
We repair and replace tank and tankless water heaters. Here's what we look at, and how to choose between the two.
Signs it needs a look
When to call about your water heater
- No hot water, or it runs out much faster than it used to
- Rusty or cloudy hot water
- Water pooling around the base of the tank
- Popping, rumbling or banging from the tank
- A tankless unit showing an error code or going cold mid-shower
- An old heater you'd rather replace on your schedule than on a cold morning
Water coming out of the tank? Close the cold water valve on the pipe going into the top of the tank, switch off its power or set the gas to off, then call us. See the emergency page.
Tank or tankless
Which one makes sense for you
Neither is right for every house. This is how they compare in general. We look at your home before recommending one.
| Compared | Tank | Tankless |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Keeps a tank of water hot, ready to use | Heats water as it flows through, only when a tap is on |
| Hot water supply | Plenty until the tank runs out, then a wait while it reheats | Continuous, as long as you stay within what the unit can heat at once |
| Space | Needs floor space, usually in the basement | Mounts on a wall and frees up floor space |
| Upfront cost | Usually lower | Usually higher, and installing it can involve more work |
| Running | Uses some energy keeping the tank warm all day | No heat lost from a stored tank |
| Good fit when | You want a straightforward swap for what you have | You're short on space or tired of running out of hot water |
What we do
Repair, replace, or switch
Repairs
We find out why the hot water stopped: a burner or element, a thermostat, a valve, sediment. If a repair makes sense, we do it. If the heater is near the end, we say so.
Tank replacements
We take out the old tank, fit the new one, connect it to your water lines, check it for leaks, and take the old one away.
Switching to tankless
We look at where the unit can go and what your house needs to run it, explain what the change involves, then install it.
